Candidate For City Council
City of Shasta Lake
I Support The Following
- Fix our Fire District
- The current budget allows for a 50% staffed department.
- Increase the budget to allow for 100% staffing, growing demand & equipment.
- Increase wages – ours are among the lowest affecting new recruits and retention of current staff.
- Election Integrity
- Paper Ballots – Precinct processed vote totals.
- Eliminate electronic tabulators (Dominion)
- No mail-in ballots except for disabled & military
- Require ID to vote
- Same day results
- Clean voter rolls
- Single-Tier Water Rates
- Multi-tier rates are punitive.
- Raise base level enough to cover costs of maintenance and infrastructure improvements.
- Second-tier only in severe drought years to avoid excessive purchase costs from neighboring water districts in time of need.
- More Water Storage
- The state does not allow us to collect & store rain water. We need more storage for draught years.
- Shasta Lake First
- We may be a General Law City (governance by state statute). One size fits all regulations coming from Sacramento should never stop us from challenging them. What’s good for the largest cities & counties is not necessarily good for Shasta Lake.
- Uphold & Defend The Constitution
- Elected officials and employees swear to it but casually defend it.
- Replace existing public communication platforms violating 1st Amendment rights with ones that support rights to free speech
- Support the Shasta County Board of Supervisors Resolution defending the 2nd Amendment. We should not need a resolution for rights enshrined in the constitution but understand why the BOS has introduced it.
- Prayer at beginning of City Council meetings.
- Scale infrastructure to meet growth demands
- Police & Fire dept budgets must be aligned with growing demands on our city before implementing new projects such as:
- Homeless encampment spill-over from Redding.
- New housing projects
- New hotel project.
- Let’s allow our police department to continue practicing “proactive” policing rather than “reactive” policing.
- Police & Fire dept budgets must be aligned with growing demands on our city before implementing new projects such as:
About Kristie
Kristie Mathews
I am a wife, mother and grandmother. My family has been residents of Shasta County for 20 years. In our spare time, we love to boat and fish on Shasta Lake, and camp in the state and national parks surrounding us.
As a licensed real estate professional with over 30 years of experience, I have gained a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the field. Although retired from retail sales, I maintain an active Real Estate Brokers license for personal investment purposes.
During my career, I spent several years in the mortgage industry as a branch manager for the Redding office of a mid-sized, multi-state mortgage bank. Additionally, I played a key role in promoting professionalism by establishing a Redding Chapter of the California Association of Mortgage Brokers (CAMB), a professional trade organization akin to the California Association of Realtors.
As an active member of CAMB, I was elected to serve in various leadership positions including Secretary, Vice-President, and ultimately President, with each term of office lasting one year. I was also chosen to serve as a State Level Director, where I contributed to shaping the organization’s vision and policies for local chapters. Our primary focus during my tenure was standardizing ethical lending practices and lobbying state legislators to implement laws to punish predatory lending practices.
In addition to my work in real estate and the mortgage industry, I gained valuable experience through purchasing, renovating, and reselling distressed properties. Investing my own capital required a meticulous analysis of each property’s estimated acquisition cost, repair and renovation expenses, and holding and resale costs. As an investor, I assumed multiple roles such as estimator, project manager, sub-contractor manager, inventory controller, and materials purchaser, honing critical thinking skills and logic to make sound investments without incurring losses.
I recognize the importance of paying attention to detail to mitigate the risk of losing one’s capital. This lesson is often lost on government officials who do not treat expenditures with the same level of care as they would their own money. I will always be mindful of this when approving expenditures that come before the city council.
I proudly serve on and chair the Shasta County Aging Commission as an appointee from the City of Shasta Lake. It’s a pleasure to work on important issues affecting our aged community on the Shasta. I also co-host a radio program on Sunday afternoons that provides education and current news about the rapid adoption of Bitcoin and blockchain technologies.
